Sara Guderyahn brings both international and domestic organizing and advocacy experience to The Sheridan Group. As part of the ContactTrust in Capetown, Sara helped bridge the divide between South African parliamentarians and newly formed NGOs, organizing networking receptions and developing a marketing and press strategy. Domestically, Sara lobbied for women and children's issues at American Association of University Women. In 2006, Sara worked for Senator Richard Durbin and focused on education and health care legislation. .
Since joining The Sheridan Group in 2006, Sara helped to form The Action Group to End Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery. This coalition of ten organizations represents the front line experts who work day to day to end human trafficking and modern day slavery in the United States and around the world. As manager of The Action Group, Sara forms and implements the government relations strategy to ensure that the coalition’s legislative priorities are achieved. In 2007, the House of Representatives passed the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Act with 19 of the 20 Action Group recommendations.
As an undergraduate at American University, Sara studied law, government and public communications. She also holds a Masters degree from AU in Applied Political Science within the School of Public Affairs.
When Sara is not behind the desk or pounding the pavement on Capitol Hill, she loves to run and watch the Chicago Cubs with her family-all lifetime fans. Sara is also a mentor and classroom leader of the Running Start Young Women's Leadership Program, created to educate young women about politics and help them build leadership skills.
