Thomas F. Sheridan

The Hill newspaper has called him "A powerbroker for those without a voice." Tom Sheridan brings a unique perspective to his work as the founder and President of The Sheridan Group, whose mission is to "help the good do better."

Tom Sheridan began his career as a social worker opening group homes for the developmentally disabled in New York. In 1982 he left New York for Washington to join the National Association of Social Workers and the Child Welfare League of America, before leading the AIDS Action Council in the late 1980s. He is well known as the influential leader of the nation’s first AIDS lobby, which eventually would involve more than 140 organizations and yielded the enactment of landmark legislation for the HIV/AIDS community including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Ryan White CARE Act.

In 1991, Tom Sheridan founded The Sheridan Group where he and his team work to craft effective strategies for socially responsible public policy initiatives. Over the years, The Sheridan Group has become the go-to firm in the nation’s capital for non-profits, social entrepreneurs and other agents of change. With an approach that is both unique and creative, The Sheridan Group combines policy know-how, political saavy and press expertise. Sheridan’s diverse client portfolio today includes Bono’s ONE Campaign, the American Cancer Society, the Action Group on Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery, and the Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Association, to name a few.

A veteran of the Mondale-Ferraro presidential campaign, Mr. Sheridan is a seasoned political and policy expert who uses his knowledge of the legislative process to help organizations achieve positive social change on a global scale. From AIDS in Africa to anti-tobacco campaigns, Mr. Sheridan has created a unique approach to advocacy that makes him a sought-after ally of progressive organizations determined to challenge the status quo.

Mr. Sheridan is a Founding Board Member of AIDSPAC and the Matthew 25 Project; and has served on the Advisory Council for WAMU National Public Radio in Washington, DC. He has been a volunteer for numerous community charities, participating in seven AIDS Life Cycles and pedaling more than 3,000 miles.
