A 21st Century Education

The Partnership for Global Learning is an Asia Society membership network that connects state and district decision makers, school leaders, teachers, university faculty, and other stakeholders. Its focus is to increase the number of American schools offering rigorous international studies curriculum. The Sheridan Group is currently working with the Asia Society, Partnership for Global Learning to advocate for public education policies to promote cultural competency and second language training to meet the demands of the 21st Century.

In partnership with the Asia Society, The Sheridan Group brought together a coalition of language teachers, university educators and national education groups to: cultivate a Congressional sponsor; write and introduce new legislation entitled the "Excellence and Innovation in Language Learning Act"; and create a national imperative for language learning. The legislation works with states to develop the systems and structures necessary to support comprehensive language training in the early grades and encourages partnerships between qualified nonprofits, local education agencies and universities to implement quality language programs across the country. This comprehensive legislative strategy requires on-going support, coordination and strategic direction from a team that is intimately connected both inside and outside the beltway. The Sheridan Group conceptualized the strategy and is actualizing the policy
