Transforming the Educational Pathway

Global Citizen Year is committed to transforming the education path for American young people by promoting a bridge year of service abroad between high school and college. Now in its second year of operation, Global Citizen Year has youth engaged in service projects in Brazil, Ecuador and Senegal. The Sheridan Group has partnered with Global Citizen Year to research and lay out the most strategic paths for the organization’s federal policy and advocacy activities as part of their mission to take their work to significant, national scale.

From its inception, the founder of Global Citizen Year, Abby Falik, has aspired to ignite a movement of youth completing a bridge year of service abroad between high school and college. Given this end goal, Abby has been clear that policy considerations need to part of her organization’s early planning and that an informed policy lens should overlay key decision making, such as research and evaluation questions and geographic growth targets. The Sheridan Group is researching and assessing the viability and potential return on investment of near and longer term government engagement strategies, as well as advising on organizational and programmatic development decisions that could have implications for policy. The deliverable for this engagement is a series of recommendations, identifying key opportunities to influence policy and funding sources so the organization’s lean resources can be most strategically directed and effectively deployed.
