Saving National Service

Saving National Service

Voices for National Service is a diverse coalition of national service programs, state commissions, and individual champions committed to expanding opportunities for Americans of all ages to serve and volunteer. The coalition mobilizes the service field to educate our nation’s leaders and the American public about the power and impact of national service. Voices for National Service has partnered with The Sheridan Group to develop and deploy the assets of the coalition for success through the budget and appropriations process.

The passage of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act in 2009 with bipartisan support presented a significant opportunity to fulfill the promise of the service movement – giving Americans of all ages an opportunity to participate in responding to crisis in our communities and solving some of nation’s most pressing social problems. While authorized, this Congressional intention to expand service opportunities in our country has not yet been funded. Advising on the coalition’s strategy and tactics from coalition management to developing a congressional champion, The Sheridan Group is helping to position Voices for National Service to deliver on the potential of the Serve America Act.
