Shawn Daugherty Senior Policy Associate
Shawn brings Capitol Hill experience on some of the nation’s most recent and dynamic legislative debates to The Sheridan Group. Shawn joined The Sheridan Group in June of 2010 after years of working on Capitol Hill for the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Paul G. Kirk (D-MA). Shawn served as Senator Kirk’s Legislative Assistant on issues such as healthcare, education, disability, women, and children. She was the Senator’s key legislative staff person when the Congress enacted historic reform of our nation’s health care system, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Prior to her work with Senator Kirk, Shawn was a Staff Assistant for the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, serving under Chairman Kennedy. In this role, Shawn was integral in managing and organizing the 13-day mark-up of the health care reform legislation. Shawn assisted with legislative hearings, the presidential nomination hearings and numerous other pieces of legislation that passed through the Committee during her tenure.
Shawn also has political experience on both the state and local level, having worked for a Massachusetts state representative and a local board of selectman, board of health, and planning board.
Shawn received her MPA from Suffolk University and her BA in Economics and Legal Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Community Engagement
Shawn is a Project Coordinator with Greater DC Cares, an organization that works to mobilize volunteers in the DC / Metro region and stregthens nonprofits through greater community impact.
She also leads the effort at The Sheridan Group to identify cause-based events for our running team and is credited with coining the team’s name, The Goody Two Shoes.
